This nature program is designed to allow participants the chance to explore things they like about nature and being outdoors. Activities will include stewardship, discovery, games and arts and crafts. Participants should wear appropriate shoes and clothing for outside play. Pre-registration is required and space is limited.

 

 

PRAIRIES OF OHIO

Learn the history of and why we have prairies in Ohio by prairie expert Guy Denny, former Chief of the Ohio Division of Natural Areas and Preserves. Discuss methods and techniques for creating and managing your own patch of prairie.

Ducks and water birds will be featured on this spring walk led by Doug Overacker, President of the Clark County Audubon Society. Participants should meet at the Pumphouse Road Bridge. Pre-registration is recommended.

 

BACKYARD CONSERVATION WORKSHOP

Learn Backyard Conservation measures during this educational workshop. OSU Extension will discuss Chemical Free Landscaping. The workshops will also give-away Down Spout Disconnect Kits and have information on the rain barrel sale and city initiatives to plant a tree. The workshop is presented in partnership the City of Springfield.

Discover native wildflowers and discover the folklore about them on this spring hike. The walk will begin at the Lower East Shelter House. Pre-registration for the walk is required.

Search for spring migrating warblers and local birds on this morning hike. All skill levels are welcome. Bring binoculars if you have them. Participants should meet at the Pumphouse Rd. Bridge at Old Reid Park. Pre-registration is recommended.

 

HANGING BASKET WORKSHOP

The 9:00 am workshop will receive instruction and supplies to plant a succulent container garden in a natural ceramic bowl. Succulents make excellent container plants because they are easy to grow and low maintenance. The 10:30 am workshop participants will receive instruction and supplies to create a hanging basket.

Enjoy hands on project-based learning in the NTPRD gardens while participating in fun activities and games. Gardeners will learn about seeds, how plants grow and wildlife in the garden. Participants should dress appropriately for the outdoors.
