A Junior Olympics competition Basketball and Track & Field, sponsored nationally by Kellogg's, will be held on April 28 at the Lagonda Fields Park at 10:00am. The program is free for boys and girls ages 8-13, as of September 1, 2007.  Participants may pick in either or both competitions and may only wear gym shoes. The objective of the basketball portion is to score as many points as possible by making baskets from designated shooting areas. The objective of track and field (must compete in all three) is in three skill events: the Sprint (50-meter dash), Long Jump (standing broad jump), and the Shot Put (softball put). Ribbons will be given to winners who qualify for regional competitions later.

PAquafina/MLB  Pitch, Hit, & Run

Clark County Local Competition       May 10 at 10:00 am

The Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit, Run Program is a skill development competition conducted in cooperation with  Major League Baseball, Youth 7 - 14 (by December 31,2008)  years of age may compete.  The competition will be held at the Carleton Davidson Stadium.  The winners of local finals will move on to sectional competition, and may move on to regional (Cincinnati Reds) Game, and nationally (Major League All Star Game). Players will be tested on hitting from a tee (for distance and accuracy), running the bases (for speed), plus pitching (for accuracy).  This event is FREE.  

NOTE: Please bring a birth certificate or baptismal record and understand that parents or guardians must sign the registration form and metal spikes are not permitted.

Spring at New Boston      May 3 and  4  opens at 11am

Held at George Rogers Clark  Park.  Perennial & annual plants, flowers and herbs are for sale for your garden, basket weaving, beekeeping and more.  Click here for more information.

Annual Fishing Derby        

This annual event is held at the Hosterman Lake at George Rogers Clark Park. Sponsored by the Friends of the Park. Prizes will be awarded and this Family Event is open to fisherman of all ages and is free. Click here for more information or call 882-6000. 

KAY SCHUBERT TENNIS CARNIVAL        Youth Tennis

A free Tennis Clinic for young people ages 8 -18 will be conducted at the Howard Z. Dredge Tennis Center, in Snyder Park. The program, also made possible by the Springfield Tennis Patrons.  Free T-shirts will be provided to the first 100 registrations.  Snacks and door prizes will be given. All Carnival activities are free of charge.

Old Fashioned 4th    July 4 at 2 PM until 4 PM.

Held at  George Rogers Clark  Park.  Join in fun and games like 3-legged races, tug of war and watermelon seed spitting contests.  Click here for more information.

TENNIS EXTRAVAGANZA           Tennis

A free day of fun tennis activities for persons of all ages at Old Reid Park.  Instruction, competition, prizes, and lunch will highlight the day for tennis players whether experienced or inexperienced.  The event is co-sponsored by the Springfield Tennis Patrons and is free of charge. 

Adult/Kid Hooked on Fishing  

Enjoy a morning of fishing at George Rogers Clark Park with your favorite adult or kid. "Hooked on Fishing" is a program organized by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources to promote getting Hooked on Fishing Not on Drugs program.  Fishing equipment, bait and instruction (when needed will be provided), but feel free to bring your own gear if you have it. Please pre-register by phone so we know how much bait to buy. George Rogers Clark Park's Hosterman Lake is a beautiful facility, where no fishing license is required. A special accessible dock is available for fishing to make the experience enjoyable for everyone. The program will be conducted 9:00am until noon for any age youth accompanied by an adult. This is a free event.

Pepsi and N.F.L.  Punt, Pass, and Kick     

Sponsored nationally by Pepsi and the National Football League, this football skill competition is for boys and girls ages 8 - 15.   

The Competition will take place at 10:00 a.m. at the Eagle City Soccer Complex. No pre-registration is necessary but a parents signature on an entry form and a copy of birth certificate are required.

Santa Calling         Registration deadline is:  December 7, 2007

This service is a joint project of the National Trail Parks Parks and Recreation District and the Recreation and Buck Creek State Park employees. "Santa Calling" gives Clark County children the opportunity to talk directly with "Santa." Santa will call children December 11 and 12.   All children in Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grades receive a sealed envelope containing a "Santa Calling" registration. You can also obtain a form from our administrative office.
